“Pehonan” means “gathering place” in Cree, and this 4D theatre is just that. It offers a powerful 12-minute cinematic journey through Alberta’s past—from Indigenous traditions to modern-day Alberta. As a newcomer, this gave me context about Treaty 6 land and what it means to live on shared territory. It’s short, impactful, and a great place to cool down too!

🔎 Tip: Combine this with the pancake breakfast and then stroll around the Legislature gardens—beautiful photo ops!

🚨 A Few Things You Should Know Before Heading Out

As someone who has now spent a few Canada Days in Edmonton, here are some helpful tips to avoid headaches:

🚍 Public Transit

  • Use ETS (Edmonton Transit Service): Extra buses and LRTs will run on Canada Day, but they can get very crowded—especially after the fireworks.

  • LRT is your best friend if you’re heading downtown or to the Legislature Grounds.

🚗 Parking

  • Parking is extremely limited, particularly near the Legislature Grounds and River Valley viewpoints.

  • Expect road closures, especially around Walterdale Bridge, 109 Street, and Downtown core from afternoon onward.

  • If you’re driving, plan to arrive early and consider parking farther away and walking or taking transit in.

🚧 Traffic

  • There will be heavy traffic after 9 PM.

  • Avoid major bridges and intersections near the River Valley unless you’re prepared for delays.

  • Bring water, snacks, and maybe a folding chair if you’re planning to camp out for fireworks

🎇 Happy Canada Day, Edmonton!
Here’s to unity, diversity, and a city that welcomes everyone with open arms.
